Grant to fund spay/neuter for 75 La Pine pit bulls, mixes
Bend Spay+Neuter Project is pleased to have received a #3,375 grant from Best Friends Animal Society for its new La Pine Pit Bull program to help save the lives of pit bull terrier-like dogs in our community.
Bend Spay+Neuter Project participates in Best Friends’ No More Homeless Pets ® Network, a program offering financial and technical support to shelters, rescue groups, and other grassroots animal welfare organizations saving lives in their communities.
“This grant allows us to include the community of La Pine in our work toward helping to ease the overcrowding in the local animal shelter,” said Clinic Director Megan Gram. “Our goal will be to provide 75 free spay or neuter surgeries for pit bull terrier-like dogs from La Pine. We appreciate the support of Best Friends Animal Society in making this program possible.”
In addition to the La Pine Pit Bull Program, Bend Spay+Neuter Project has additional funding to help make all spay/neuter surgeries for pit bull type dogs affordable for owners.
Liz Finch, senior manager of Best Friends’ National Programs, added, “This grant project targets dogs that are most at-risk to be killed and provides an innovative solution to save their lives in alignment with Best Friends’ determination to Save Them All ® .”
Every day, more than 9,000 pets are killed in shelters because they don’t have homes. Best Friends Animal Society and its No More Homeless Pets Network partners, including Bend Spay+Neuter Project, are committed to saving them.
