A 41-year-old Prineville man went to the hospital for treatment after his motorcycle struck a deer on Highway 27 Sunday afternoon, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to the reported collision on Highway 27 near milepost 3, said Deputy Dan Smith.

They arrived and found a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle off the west side of the highway, Smith said.

The motorcycle operator, Dusty Weich, was heading south on the highway when he struck a deer trying to cross the road. The motorcycle tipped onto its side and slid with the rider pinned on it, Smith said.

Weich, who was wearing a helmet, was taken by a passing motorist to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, where a house supervisor said he was treated and later released.
