The Bend Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was recognized Thursday in Washington, DC at the DAR’s national conference, the 124th Continental Congress.

Bend Chapter’s Literacy Promotion Project, one of hundreds across the country, was awarded the National Second Place award for excellence.

In the past year, Bend Chapter has collected over 1,300 children’s books for kids in Central Oregon shelters and in foster care.

DAR is a women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and honoring the patriots of the Revolutionary War.
