NeighborImpact adds energy assistance appointment hours
Across Central Oregon, many people are making difficult choices. They need to choose which bill to pay first or whether to pay the energy bill, for necessary medication, or to put food on the table. It is difficult for many people, especially for low-income families and the elderly.
In order to help lift this burden and meet the growing need for energy assistance in Central Oregon, the NeighborImpact Energy Assistance program recently expanded their availability for appointments. They offer a total of 252 appointments per week in five locations:
Bend, 5 days a week
Redmond, 5 days a week
Madras, 3 days a week
La Pine, 3 days a week
Prineville, 4 days a week
In addition, customers can request an application be mailed to their homes if they can’t come in for an appointment.
“Working to improve our outreach and availability for the community makes sense,” says Jeff Lichtenberg, Energy Assistance manager for NeighborImpact. “We provide a necessary service for folks across Central Oregon and want to be accessible when people need us. We were even open on Veterans Day, which I think is a great service to provide to veterans!”
During the 2014-2015 fiscal year, NeighborImpact served 13,619 individuals and provided more than $2,036,000 in energy assistance dollars to low-income residents in Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties.
