USPS asks: Please clear area around mailboxes

KTVZ

In the aftermath of the area’s recent snowstorm, Bend Postmaster Nathan Leigh reminded postal customers Tuesday to always clear and maintain a safe, accessible path to their mailboxes.

“Winter storms make mail delivery very challenging for our letter carriers,” Leigh said today. “Please make certain your mailbox is visible and free of snow and ice, and make sure it is safely accessible for your letter carrier. This means clearing the path to your mailbox area of any snow, sleet, slush, ice or debris.”

If mailboxes are blocked off and conditions are too difficult, letter carriers must consider safety and accessibility first. Letter carriers are instructed not to deliver to mailboxes and locations they consider unsafe to access.

The employees of the Bend Post Office greatly appreciate their customers’ support in this effort to ensure mail is delivered to every home possible on a daily basis.
