Fire damages SW Redmond garage-shop
An apparent electrical fire heavily damaged a garage-shop and chicken coop in southwest Redmond Sunday evening, but the few chickens in the coop were rescued, officials said.
Firefighters were called shortly before 5 p.m. to the property owned by Robert Lee at 2521 Southwest Yew Avenue, said Redmond Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.
Crews arrived to find fire inside the structure on the north side and a wooden chicken coop in the rear of the structure also involved, Cooper said.
Firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading to a home near the burning structure, she added. They knocked down the fire at the rear of the garage-shop while another crew worked to gain access to and extinguish the fire inside.
There were no injuries to occupants or personnel, Cooper said, and a small number of chickens were rescued from the coop.
Losses were estimated at $25,000 to the building and contents. While the fire’s cause probably was electrical in nature, the exact cause was under investigation, the fire marshal said.
