Redmond HS to use state grant for entrpreneur program
Redmond High School has been awarded $231,700 through the Career and Technical Education Revitalization Grant by the Oregon Department of Education and the Bureau of Labor and Industries.
ODE and BOLI issued statewide CTE Revitalization Grants totaling $9 million to 142 middle schools and high schoolsin Oregon.
The CTE Revitalization Grant funds will serve diverse communities around the state with programs focused on advanced manufacturing, engineering, agricultural science, app development, robotics, tourism, forestry, home renovation and health care.
Redmond High School plans to use the grant award to build an entrepreneurship program in conjunction with the school’s business and manufacturing CTE programs. Funds will be used for instructional staffing costs, professional development and equipment.
Additionally, funds will be used for a remodel of the business classroom to physically connect with manufacturing.
“Redmond High School is excited to utilize this grant to build upon our ongoing work around Career and Technical Education,” said Tony Pupo, RHS principal. “Our strong partnership with Central Oregon’s business community allows students to receive an education that prepares them for family wage and cutting-edge employment opportunities in our local community.”
CTE programs help develop both academic and technical skills and contribute to a rich and relevant learning experience. Graduation rates for students in CTE programs are near 90 percent, according to the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium.
Redmond School District is known for its comprehensive array of CTE programs offered at both of its high school campuses, the district said.
Redmond High Schooloffers CTE programs inagriculture sciences, automotive technology, business and entrepreneurship, manufacturing and engineering, welding, and construction technology.Ridgeview High Schooloffers CTE programs in television production, culinary arts, engineering, business and human development.
