Bundy displays Bronze Star, uniform, flag given by visitors
In one of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge takeover’s weekend postings to social media. leader Ammon Bundy displayed a Bronze Star, uniform, American flag and other items given to him by veterans and family members who he said support their cause — items he said he only reluctantly accepted.
“Liberty loving veterans support the #OregonFront” the group said in its posting to the Bunch Ranch Facebook page. “Ammon receives a Bronze Star and other gifts from men who served.”
The uniform came from a colonel who Bundy said “insisted that I take it because of the bravery that we exhibited here. I know he wasn’t just talking of me, but others as well.
“I had a gentleman give me his Airborne hat, for the same reason,” he said, “because they understand the reason they want into the military was to defend the innocent, to defend those who need defending.”
Bundy displayed a flag that he said was given to him by a visitor who said it was draped over his brother’s casket at his military funeral.
“He wanted me to have it,” Bundy said. “Again, I had a hard time taking it. He insisted that I take it, in honor of his brother.”
“The sacrifice that our veterans have made, to leave their families and to give up their lives for many decade in defense of this great nation have been tremendous,” Bundy said.
“I am extremely honored to be presented these gifts and I promised to them that I will not violate, I will not compromise the people’s rights,” he said. “I will not violate the Constitution of the United States. And I will stand strong, and those that are with me are resolved to stand strong until we get much of these problems resolved.”
“I am honored to have these things, and I will always honor them, until my death,” Bundy concluded.
