Two puppies flying from Maui to Bend, seeking new families

KTVZ

Two lucky puppies from Maui will be greeted Thursday night at the airport in Portland by Humane Society of Central Oregon staff.

The puppies are flying courtesy of Maui Humane Society’s Wings of Aloha program, that enables animals to find a new life on the mainland through shelter adoption partners, like the Humane Society of Central Oregon.

The puppies will arrive Friday afternoon in Bend at the Humane Society of Central Oregon. They will be available for adoption after assessment and after their medical needs, like spay and neuter, are taken care of.

This inaugural flight begins the partnership between the Humane Society of Central Oregon and Maui Humane Society. With support from the community and travelers headed to Maui and Kaui, we will be able to help save precious lives by bringing dogs from crowded shelters in Hawaii to Oregon.

Animal lovers flying to Maui or Kauai can make a difference in the lives of canines seeking a new, loving home.

The Kauai Humane Society and the Maui Humane Society have long standing, successful programs that fly dogs from their crowded on-island shelters to mainland shelters for adoption. Maui’s is the Wings of Aloha Transfer Program (http://www.mauihumanesociety.org/) and Kauai’s is the Shelter Pet Transfer Program (http://kauaihumane.org/).

Enjoy paradise and have a rewarding return flight. Dogs from Maui and Kauai can fly back on a traveler’s ticket on a nonstop flight to Portland, Oregon and other West Coast cities. People interested in participating in these programs should contact the appropriate Kauai or Maui Humane Societies program. All arrangements are done for you. Volunteers on both ends handle all the logistics.
