Idaho semi driver arrested in Hwy. 97 DUII hit-and-run crash
An Idaho semi-truck driver was arrested on DUII, hit-and-run and other charges Sunday night by Oregon State Police who said he struck a tow truck removing vehicles from an earlier crash and kept going on Highway 97 south of La Pine.
OSP troopers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. to the reported hit-and-run crash on the highway near milepost 172, sad Lt. Cari Boyd.
The southbound semi driven by Stewart A. Maze, 40, of Boise, struck one of the tow trucks removing vehicles from an earlier crash, causing substantial damage, Boyd said, adding that the tow truck driver suffered a leg injury.
OSP troopers found the rig and Maze about eight miles south of the crash scene, Boyd said.
Based on an investigation, Maze was arrested and lodged at the Deschutes County jail on charges of DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering, criminal mischief, fourth-degree assault and failure to perform the duties of a driver.
Maze was being held Monday morning on $36,000 bail, jail records showed it later was reduced to $25,000, with a next court date of Feb. 8.
