Hwy. 97 reopens after crash north of Terrebonne

A two-vehicle, reportedly head-on crash closed Highway 97 south of Juniper Butte in Jefferson County Wednesday afternoon, closing the highway in both directions for a time, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. near milepost 107, about nine miles north of Terrebonne. One of the vehicles was reported on its top, with possible entrapment of those inside.

A Life Flight helicopter was called to the scene, according to ODOT spokesman Peter Murphy. Oregon State Police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies also were on scene.

According to ODOT’s TripCheck, traffic was moving again within an hour of the crash.

One car was on still scene with extensive front-end damage some time later. There were unconfirmed reports a second vehicle involved had left the scene.
