Redmond PD chase prompts search, rooftop sightings, arrest
A 22-year-old Redmond man who refused to pull over for a traffic stop early Wednesday morning led police on a pursuit, then ran from the car. That prompted a search that brought citizen tips of a man on a home’s roof, leading to his arrest on numerous charges, including parole violation, officers said.
Around 4:40 a.m., an officer tried to stop a silver Honda Accord near Southwest Sixth Street and Evergreen Avenue for an expired registration, said Sgt. Hank Majetich.
When the driver, later identified as Jalen Miller, did not stop, a pursuit was initiated at speeds of 30 to 45 mph before the officer lost the car in northwest Redmond, Majetich said.
Officers found the car in the area of Northwest Seventh Street and Jackpine Court, but the driver had run, prompting a search. A perimeter was established and a Redmond Police K-9 team was called in, the sergeant said.
A Deschutes County sheriff’s deputy spotted a man running in the area, and soon there were several citizen 911 calls regarding a man on the roof of a home. Majetich said that led to a brief chase on foot and Miller’s apprehension.
Evidence found in the car showed Miller had been driving, Majetich said. Also found in the car were suspected stolen property, drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Miller was taken to St. Charles Redmond for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries from jumping off the roof of the home, Majetich said.
Miller then was taken to the county jail in Bend on charges of felony and misdemeanor elude, misdemeanor driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, methamphetamine and heroin possession, second-degree criminal mischief, interfering with a police officer and criminal trespass. He was held without bail on a parole violation charge.
Majetich said Redmond Police want to thank the sheriff’s office, Oregon State Police and neighborhood residents for their assistance. Anyone with more information was urged to contact the Redmond Police Department at 541-504-3400 or through the dispatch non-emergency number, 541-693-6911.
