Pair of crashes clog Bend Parkway
A soggy commute became a longer one in Bend Thursday morning as a pickup towing a trailer jackknifed on the northbound Bend Parkway at Colorado Avenue, shortly after a deer-car collision near the Revere Avenue exit to the north.
Jack Gassaway said he was heading north and slowed down around 9 a.m. to change lanes due to the deer-car collision up ahead when a pickup and utility trailer hit the rear of his car, then jackknifed, also striking another car.
The collision blocked traffic for a time until ODOT was able to set up a detour onto Powers Road and Third Street.
Deschutes County dispatchers said medics were dispatched for a minor injury; Gassaway said it was to check him out, as he suffered whiplash.
ODOT spokesman Peter Murphy said both crashes had restricted traffic to one lane heading north — and the medic response also had one lane closed southbound at the Colorado exit.
ODOT reported both lanes had reopened at Colorado Avenue by just after 9:30 a.m.
