Tillamook mom sues schools after child left sleeping on bus

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The mother of a 4-year-old special education student who was left sleeping on an empty Tillamook County school bus has filed a lawsuit.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports (https://is.gd/BncdnN ) that Laura Pozos Leon filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging negligence and infliction of emotional distress.

According to the lawsuit, a bus picked up Pozos Leon’s child on March 19 and the driver then dropped off all other students without ever making a stop at Head Start, where the 4-year-old was headed. Instead, the driver parked the bus at the district transportation department’s bus barn for repairs.

The child was unsupervised, asleep in the bus for about two hours.

In a statement, the Tillamook County School District said the driver made a mistake and the district is working on new procedures to ensure there are no future incidents.
