One more weekend of free yard debris disposal around C.O.
The Cougar Butte Fire and multiple small incidents over Memorial Day weekend reminded local residents that fire season has arrived. Despite the wet winter and spring months, it’s time to start to focus on preparing your family and yard for fire season.
So far, the FireFree events have been a sweeping success demonstrating once again that central Oregon residents take their own wildfire preparedness seriously. For those residents who live in Sisters, Redmond, La Pine and Klamath County their FireFree opportunity is coming up this weekend.
“Our fine fuels such as grasses and brush are growing very tall with the increase in snowpack and rain Central Oregon received the past months,” reminded FireFree Coordinator Alison Green. “This means there is an increase in ladder fuels that will carry fire and fire season will come all the same to Central Oregon despite the recent wet weather.”
The FireFree message is a year-round effort to educate community members about how they can be prepared for wildfires. Residents are encouraged to visit the www.FireFree.org for more information on reducing the structural ignitability of homes.
There’s still one weekend left to dispose of yard waste and debris for FREE!
FireFree allows residents of Central Oregon the opportunity to dump yard waste and debris at no charge at area landfills and transfer stations.
