Lightning-sparked wildfire caught small east of Sunriver

(Update: Mop-up work, fire was lightning-caused)

Crews were still on scene doing mop-up Wednesday on a lightning-sparked wildfire that burned about 2 1/2 acres seven miles east of Sunriver, officials said.

Incident 571 was reported late Tuesday afternoon northeast of Klawhop Butte and seven miles east of Sunriver, according to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center in Redmond.

The blaze was fought by hand crews assisted by three single-engine air tankers, two helicopters and three engines, officials said.

Before nightfall, officials estimated the size at 2 1/2 acres and said firefighters were constructing containment lines around the fire, and the SEAT planes were on standby.

Officials confirmed Wednesday the fire was caused by lightning as thunderstorms moved through the area.
