S. Oregon man gets 15-plus years for killing wife

KTVZ

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man has been sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison for fatally shooting his wife.

The Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2xZNRDQ ) 46-year-old Wade Eugene Phillips was sentenced on Tuesday after entering guilty pleas in late September to first-degree manslaughter and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon. He is accused of killing 37-year-old Cynthia Michelle Phillips and firing shots at other family members the morning of Nov. 11, 2015.

Wade Eugene Phillips’ defense lawyers argued mental illness contributed to the crime, but the prosecution argued it was methamphetamine-induced paranoia that led to the killing.
