Redmond man arrested on DUII after crash into pole
A 47-year-old Redmond man was arrested on DUII and reckless charges Friday afternoon after crashing his pickup truck into a utility pole west of Redmond, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Dispatchers for 911 received a call around 12:45 p.m. Friday from a man reporting a single-vehicle crash on Southwest Helmholtz Way south of Obsidian Avenue, said sheriff’s Lt. Mike Biondi.
Responding deputies found a green 2000 Ford pickup had overturned, crashed into a pole and resting on its side, Biondi said. The pole had been sheared off and was lying atop the truck.
The driver, identified as Justin Higbee, was out of the pickup and unhurt.
Redmond firefighters and police responded to assist with the crash, which closed Helmholtz Way for about 90 minutes.
Higbee was arrested on charges of DUII, reckless driving and criminal mischief, Biondi said. He was taken to the county jail in Bend and released within an hour to a responsible third party, according to a jail officer.
