(Update: Arrest made in ATV theft, but ATV still not recovered)

A Crime Stoppers tip has led to the arrest of a Prineville man in the August theft of an ATV from a flatbed trailer parked on a northwest Redmond street, police said Thursday. But the ATV is still missing, so more tips are being sought, in hopes of finding it.

The ATV was reported stolen on Aug. 22, while parked overnight in front of the victim’s home on Northwest Fourth Street. A Crime Stoppers story was posted two days later, said police Lt. Curtis Chambers.

On Oct. 9, a person with information came forward and identified the theft suspect as Tyler Shinkle, 25, who already was in jail on other charges in Jefferson County, Chambers said.

A Redmond police officer confirmed Shinkle was the suspect and he was arrested on charges of first-degree theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.

A Jefferson County jail officer said Shinkle was arrested Oct. 1 on attempt to elude police, meth possession and other charges He is now being held on the Deschutes County warrant and $125,000 bail, pending a Nov. 21 court date.

The ATV has not been recovered, however. Anyone with information as to its whereabouts is urged to contact Redmond police through Deschutes County non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
