Mid Oregon Credit Union honored for social responsibility efforts
Bend-based Mid Oregon Credit Union was honored for its heartwarming work to make an unforgettable difference in the lives of local children.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility and Community Service Award was presented Wednesday during the Northwest Credit Union Association’s annual MAXX Convention in Spokane. The NWCUA represents over 180 credit unions in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
As a matriarch of the North American Credit Union Movement, Maxwell encouraged credit unions to do exemplary work supporting community organizations, and improve people’s lives through community outreach.
Mid Oregon CU mobilized its staff to build and decorate bicycles for children. Through the credit union’s “Wheels for the World” project, the bikes were distributed to many organizations including the Boys and Girls Club, Mountain Star Relief Nursey, the HUB After School Program, Crook County Kid’s Club, and Circle of Friends.
“Not every child comes from a family able to buy bicycles,” said NWCUA President and CEO Troy Stang. “Mid Oregon Credit Union’s team-building work is going to make a lasting difference to children and charities in Central Oregon.”
Mid Oregon CU’s “Wheels for the World” project will now be considered for a national Dora Maxwell Award, one of the Credit Union Movement’s most prestigious honors.
