Bend-area hunters adopt Highway 97 deer fence

KTVZ

The Bend Chapter of the Oregon Hunters Association earlier this year adopted the fence maintenance for the deer fence which runs along U.S. Highway 97 between Lava Butte and the Sunriver exit. Throughout the year, members have been conducting a coordinated patrol along the fence line and making needed repairs.

This can include removing trees off the fence and patching damaged sections of the fence and even picking up litter along the route.

For 2017, OHA members have donated 75 hours of volunteer time and driven 476 miles to complete this task.

Just last week, a vehicle lost control on the highway and drove through the deer fence. OHA members will be replacing 120 feet of fence line this Wednesday.
