Bend’s 14th Street project causing some confusion
The 14th Street construction project on Bend’s Westside is moving right along, as drivers find alternative routes to get to their destinations.
But many people said getting to the Westside has become a nightmare.
“It’s like a maze,” Courtney Miller told NewsChannel 21 on Tuesday.
Miller said she lives on the north end of Bend and works on the Westside, which is a commute that’s hard to maneuver.
Construction signs and orange cones cover 14th Street from Newport Avenue all the way to Century Drive.
Some drivers are taking a shortcut through business parking lots, trying to avoid the hassle.
Andrew LaFlamme said he was trying to walk to downtown, but was escorted to the other side of the street.
LaFlamme was confused about where to walk.
“It said the sidewalk was closed down, so I was walking through the construction site, which apparently was not for these guys,” he said.
Others have decided to ditch their vehicles to avoid the construction.
“It said the road was closed to through traffic, so I figured I’d just park my car and figure it out on a bike or on foot,” Travis Wiggins said.
The $5 million reconstruction project is expected to last into September.
