Passer-by stops Redmond motor home fire

KTVZ

A refrigerator malfunction sparked a fire in a motor home on the road in Redmond Friday, but the occupants and two dogs escaped unhurt, officials said.

Redmond firefighters responded shortly after 11 a.m. to the report of a motor home on fire in front of the Rocket Coffee Shop at the intersection of Southwest Lake Road and Veterans Way, Battalion Chief Jeff Puller said.

The refrigerator malfunctioned and caught fire, spreading to the interior and exterior of the motor home, he said. The motor home owner, from Clackamas, was passing through town, Puller added.

Crews arrived to find the fire had been knocked down by a passer-by with a fire extinguisher, Puller said. Firefighters went inside to check for further extension and ensure the fire was out.
