Oregon State Police seek tips to find whoever cut down, discarded 7 ODOT road signs in Wasco County
THE DALLES, Ore. (KTVZ) – Seven ODOT road signs were cut down and removed along U.S. Highway 97 and two other highways in Wasco County last month and found discarded together by a roadway. Oregon State Police said Thursday they are looking for information to solve the crimes.
OSP responded on Dec. 21 to the report of multiple road signs cut down and removed in Wasco County. The investigation determined seven road signs were removed some time between Dec. 15 and 20 from along Highway 97 and state highways 293 and 218.
The signs were found dumped along OR 293 near milepost 3.
They included directional and milepost signs, a speed limit, Highway 97 logo, city and county limits and one marking the 45th Parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole.
OSP said the estimated repair cost for each sign is about $500.
State Police are asking anyone who might have related information to call dispatch at *677 and reference Case Number SP23-400394.
ODOT's Region 4 sign crew manager said, "Normally, we do not have these kind of events where someone destroys multiple signs in a corridor. We have had signs stolen in the past, but not to this extent."
