Winter begins today, rainy and mild pattern

Although today is the first day of Winter 2024-25 it feels more like the middle of Fall. Highs will once again reach the upper 40s and low 50s as rain dominates the morning hours and tapers off this afternoon.

The wet pattern will begin in earnest today, even though we have seen some light precipitation today.  The timing of the showers varies each day as wave after wave of light rain and wintry mix arrive.  Some days the rain will be in the morning, some days the afternoon, some rain and snow will fall overnight. Bottom line is that there will be measurable precipitation each of the next several days.

Today begins our first in the series of rainy days, with the rain and mix of rain and snow beginning before sunrise. There will be periods of rain throughout the day, so if you are out and about, keep the rain gear handy.

Sunday will be the opposite with respect to timing as the rain will arrive in the afternoon and linger into the night. Again, the precipitation type will be a mix of rain/snow and should end before midnight with little to no accumulation of snow.

Monday will see the rain arrive later in the day and be in the form of all rain. The temperatures will be above freezing as we go through the night, so a cold rain will linger into Tuesday.

The rain on Tuesday morning is likely to end before sunrise, but as the day moves along there may be a spot shower or two, but nothing widespread.

The dry pattern will be present on Christmas Day, but some snow and rain will return in the afternoon. This will provide slick roads and reduced visibility in the evening.  There is not much accumulation in the forecast at this time, but that may change. Not technically a White Christmas, but we may see some flakes.
