Fire Away app launches to help Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District residents

Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District

Bend, Ore. (KTVZ) --- The Sisters–Camp Sherman Fire District launched a new web application today called Fire Away to provide residents with around-the-clock access to wildfire preparedness guidance.

The resource expands on the fire district's ongoing public education and volunteer programs in Sisters, Ore. More than 50 volunteers currently assist the district by working directly with homeowners to identify steps for preparing properties against wildfire risks.

The online resource addresses multiple aspects of wildfire safety beyond property maintenance. Information available through the web application includes smoke and health considerations, evacuation planning, caring for pets and livestock and returning home safely after an evacuation.

Jeff Puller serves as the fire marshal for the Sisters–Camp Sherman Fire District. Puller emphasized that community-wide preparation plays a critical role during wildfire events.

“Here in Sisters, wildfire is a part of life and preparedness is something we all share responsibility for,” Puller said. “When individuals take steps to prepare and are better equipped to make informed decisions under stress, our entire community is stronger. We have tremendous volunteers and a deep-rooted commitment to serving our community. Fire Away extends that commitment by giving people a place to turn with their wildfire questions, day or night. It makes reliable information more accessible and helps people turn knowledge into action.”
