Silver Rail Elementary restoration work expected to continue next week ahead of students’ return

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Restoration work at Silver Rail Elementary is expected to move into its next phase next week as crews prepare the building for the anticipated return of students and staff.

The current restoration contractor is expected to finish its work by the end of this week and transition the impacted areas of the school to Kirby Nagelhout Construction (KNCC).

Next week, KNCC will focus on preparing the building for students and staff, including replacing exterior doors and constructing a new interior wall.

The south-facing exterior doorways in the impacted area will be removed and replaced with new doors. Crews will also construct a new wall at the interior entrance to the impacted classroom, creating a finished surface consistent with the surrounding spaces and separating the classroom from the rest of the school.

Reconstruction inside the classroom will continue after school hours, on weekends and during non-school days. KNCC will use the classroom’s exterior entrance to access the space and complete the remaining work.

Officials say the work will be isolated from occupied areas and scheduled to avoid disrupting normal school operations when students and staff return.

The timeline for the anticipated return of students and staff has not been specified in the restoration update.
