BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Today is National First Responders Day, a day to recognize the men and women who answer the call when our communities need them most.

That includes firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, 9-1-1 dispatchers, and search and rescue personnel.

These first responders often face dangerous and unpredictable situations, working around the clock to protect lives, respond to emergencies, and help people in their most difficult moments.

Today, we honor their courage, dedication, and sacrifice -- and recognize the important role they play in keeping our communities safe.
