La Pine couple injured in fatal head-on crash on Highway 140 in Jackson County
MEDFORD, Ore. (KTVZ) – A La Pine couple was injured in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon on state Highway 140 in Jackson County that killed a California woman who lost control of her pickup on the slushy roadway and spun into the oncoming lane, Oregon State Police said.
The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday on Oregon Highway 140 near milepost 31.
Troopers said a preliminary investigation found that Fabiola Salcedo, 42, of Dorris, Calif., was driving a Chevy Colorado heading east when she lost control and spun into the westbound lane.
The pickup spun into the westbound lane, where it was struck by a westbound Subaru Forester driven by Danny Ray Ebert, 74, of La Pine, on the passenger side, OSP said.
The pickup driver died at the scene. Ebert reportedly suffered minor injuries and his wife, Phyllis Ann Ebert, 77, was seriously injured; both were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
OSP said the cause of the crash is believed to be related to slushy roadway conditions and speed.
The crash affected the highway for about 2 ½ hours during the on-scene investigation.
