Wrong-way driver on Bend’s NE Third Street arrested on DUII charge after crash, flipping his Tesla several times

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A 24-year-old driver who sped down Bend’s Northeast Third Street the wrong way and onto the sidewalk Friday morning was arrested on DUII charges after crashing and rolling his Tesla several times, coming to rest at a bank retaining wall, police said.

Officers were called shortly before 8 a.m. to the reported single-vehicle rollover crash, Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said. Officers found the driver of the white Tesla was out of the car, with superficial injuries.

Miller said officers determined the driver was under the influence of intoxicants and took him into custody.

They reviewed video footage that showed the car traveling south at over 60 mph in both the northbound lanes and the northbound sidewalk before crashing at the entrance to the US Foods CHEFT’STORE and rolling multiple times, coming to rest at the retaining wall for US Bank.

The driver was taken to St. Charles Bend with minor injuries and for a blood draw as part of the DUII investigation, Miller said. He then was taken to the Deschutes County Jail.

The crash and investigation closed one northbound lane at the intersection for about an hour.
