BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend woman identified as a Central Oregon fentanyl trafficker and accused of bringing and distributing “significant quantities” of the drug from the Portland area was arrested in a traffic stop early Friday on U.S. Highway 97 north of Terrebonne, drug agents said.

The Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team wrapped up a short-term investigation with the apprehension shortly after midnight of Nancy Lee Long, 30, the passenger in a pickup truck stopped by Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team detectives and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies at milepost 104, just north of Terrebonne, Sgt. Kent Vander Kamp said.

A multi-county surveillance operation led to the interception and traffic stop, during which CODE narcotics detection K-9 Bonnie was deployed and signaled her handler to the presence of drugs in the pickup, Vander Kamp said. A subsequent search of Long’s clothing turned up a “substantial quantity of fentanyl powder,” the sergeant said in a news release.

Long was taken to the county jail in Bend and booked on charges of drug possession and attempted distribution. The pickup driver was released at the scene without charges, Vander Kamp said.

Court records show Long was arraigned Friday afternoon on a Class C felony charge of possessing "substantial quantities" of fentanyl. She remained held without bail at the jail Monday on a probation violation charge and is due back in court Friday afternoon on an expected grand jury indictment.
