Prineville man identified by SW Washington medical examiner as carjacking suspect shot, killed by deputies
VANCOUVER, Wash. (KTVZ) – A Prineville man was identified Wednesday as a suspect shot and killed by southwest Washington sheriff’s deputies after a carjacking at gunpoint and an attempted carjacking.
The Clark County, Washington Medical Examiner’s Office said Benjamin Steven Woods, 41, died Saturday of multiple gunshot wounds at a community hall in Salmon Creek.
Four deputies were placed on critical incident leave, which is standard protocol, The Columbian reported.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded Saturday morning to the reported carjacking in Hazel Dell. The victim told deputies a man armed with a handgun and a woman stole his van. Fifteen minutes later, deputies were dispatched to Salmon Creek, where witnesses reported a man and woman had tried to carjack another vehicle.
Deputies found the van stolen in Hazel Dell behind the American Legion and saw the suspect go into the building. They found him inside and shot him, they said. He died at the scene and no deputies were injured.
Deputies later arrested the woman, Lyndsey Jones, 42, after a homeowner found her hiding in his garage, called 911 and followed her to a nearby business parking lot, where she was arrested on a burglary charge.
