Coburg shooting leads to manhunt, I-5 pursuit, crash and officer-involved shooting; 1 killed, 1 injured
COBURG, Ore. (KTVZ) – A shooting in Coburg Sunday afternoon that critically injured one person led to a manhunt and a pursuit on Interstate 5 three hours later that ended in the use of spike strips, a crash and an officer-involved shooting that killed the car's driver and injured a passenger, Oregon State Police reported.
OSP troopers responded to the Coburg area around 3 p.m. to help Coburg police and Lane County sheriff’s deputies with the shooting that critically injured one of the individuals and prompted a search for the suspect.
Around 6 p.m., a vehicle of interest in the shooting was reported as a driving complaint. It was located by troopers and Linn and Lane county deputies, and a pursuit ensued northbound on I-5 from Exit 209.
After a successful deployment of spike strips to stop the suspect vehicle, which crashed along the freeway shoulder, troopers said. An officer-involved shooting occurred at the crash scene involving Linn County deputies and OSP troopers from the pursuit.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was killed, troopers said, and a passenger was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
OSP said no law enforcement members were injured.
The OSP Major Crimes Team was investigating the Coburg shooting.
Following Linn County’s use of deadly force (Senate Bill 111) protocols, the Albany Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting, and any involved law enforcement members have been placed on paid administrative leave by their respective agencies.
