Two teens injured, Terrebonne teen arrested, released in shooting atop Bend’s downtown parking garage

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Two teens were injured early Sunday morning by a shotgun blast fired atop the city of Bend's downtown parking garage, and a suspect was arrested Monday morning on several charges and released a short time later on his own recognizance.
Around 12:56 a.m. on Sunday morning, Bend Police responded to a report of an 18-year-old who had been shot at Centennial Parking Plaza at 750 NW Lava Road and was being transported to St. Charles Bend, Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.
Officers responded to both the hospital and the scene of the shooting and learned the shooting had taken place on the top of the parking garage, Miller said.
Witnesses reported that the teens had been hanging out next to their vehicle at the top of the parking garage when another group in a red Dodge Challenger pulled in on their passenger side.
Miller said a passenger in the Challenger discharged a round from what they believe was a shotgun a short time after arriving. Projectiles from the round hit two teens, 17- and 18-year-old Central Oregon residents, who sustained minor injuries.
Following an investigation, officers identified the shooting suspect as an 18-year-old Terrebonne resident. On Monday morning, Bend Police arrested him on suspicion of two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
He was taken into custody and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail. Jail officials confirmed he was booked into the jail shortly before 11 a.m. but met release criteria, so he was released about a half-hour later on his own recognizance without having to post bail, pending a Feb. 6 court appearance, jail officials said.
The firearm in this case has not been recovered, Miller said.
NewsChannel 21 policy is not to name arrested individuals until and unless formal charges are filed.
Deschutes County District Attorney Steve Gunnels told us they don't have any police reports as of yet, and because the suspect was released from custody, they may not get them for some time - "a couple weeks." Once they do, they will review the reports and decide what charges to file.
