Judge cuts bail in half for Crooked River Ranch man accused of robbing downtown Redmond restaurant at gunpoint

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A change in charges prompted a Deschutes County judge to cut the bail in half Tuesday for a Crooked River Ranch man accused in the Halloween night holdup of a downtown Redmond restaurant.
Douglas Richard York, 54, accused of robbing Sassy's Cafe, still faces Deschutes County charges of first- and second-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
While three drug charges were just dropped, along with felon in possession of a firearm, a prosecutor told Circuit Judge Bethany Flint that York has been indicted on drug charges in Jefferson County.
As a result, defense attorney Joel Wirtz asked the judge to reduce York's bail on the Deschutes County charges from over $500,000 to $100,000. He said York lives with his 82-year-old father, who needs his assistance and care.
But Deputy District Attorney Rosalie Beaumont asked the judge not to reduce York's bail at all due to the nature of the crime, an "armed robbery that was at gunpoint by a man wearing a mask."
The prosecutor noted that York has numerous prior robbery convictions and is the subject of an out-of-state robbery warrant.
"We do believe $500,000 (bail) is still appropriate," Beaumont said.
Flint reduced York's bail to $250,000, but she said if he posts 10 percent and is released, he will be on "full house" arrest and only allowed to leave to take his father to any medical appointments.
The prosecutor also asked, and the judge agreed to add a condition that York not have any contact with the cashier victim of the crime.
Flint scheduled a Dec. 23 plea hearing for this and two theft cases weeks earlier involving the Redmond Walmart.
