REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — An Eagle Crest man was arrested Friday morning following a series of high-speed pursuits that spanned several hours across Deschutes County. Doug R. Greaser, 54, was taken into custody after law enforcement used spike strips and a PIT maneuver to stop his vehicle on Eagle Crest Boulevard.

The incident began around 8:12 a.m. on Feb. 20 in Sisters and involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, State Police and the Black Butte Police Department. Greaser is accused of multiple counts of reckless driving and eluding police before being apprehended nearly 3 hours after the initial encounter.

The first encounter began at 8:12 a.m. in the Sisters area. A deputy attempted to stop Greaser after observing him driving aggressively, which included brake-checking the patrol vehicle and driving over a roundabout. Greaser failed to yield and continued through Sisters, but the deputy opted not to pursue the vehicle at that time for safety reasons.

Greaser was seen returning to Sisters at 8:53 a.m., where deputies were joined by the Oregon State Police and the Black Butte Police Department. During a second attempted traffic stop, Greaser fled east on Highway 20. Deputies successfully performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique, or PIT maneuver, but Greaser regained control of the vehicle and continued at a high rate of speed toward Tumalo and Bend. This pursuit was eventually terminated to protect public safety.

The incident resumed at 11:07 a.m. in the Eagle Crest area after a resident reported that a vehicle was following them. Deputies identified the car as the same vehicle involved in the morning pursuits. Law enforcement used multiple sets of spike strips and a second PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop on Eagle Crest Boulevard.

Greaser allegedly attempted to walk away from the scene and resisted officers before being taken into custody. Following the arrest, he was transported to St. Charles-Bend for a medical evaluation.

Greaser faces three counts of felony attempt to elude, three counts of reckless driving and multiple counts of reckless endangerment. He was also charged with assault on a police officer. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office credited the Oregon State Police, Black Butte Police Department and residents for their help in the investigation.
