Hwy. 126 traffic stop leads to drugs, loaded gun, arrest of La Grande fugitive
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A traffic stop on Highway 126 west of Prineville Sunday morning led to the discovery of drugs and a loaded handgun and the arrest of a 35-year-old La Grande fugitive, Oregon State Police reported.
Around 10 a.m., an OSP trooper pulled over a Cadillac STS driven by Anthony Mailman on Highway 126 near milepost 13 for a traffic violation, Capt. Tim Fox said.
He did not have what the specific violation entailed, but said Mailman was arrested for failure to have a driver's license, giving false information to a police officer and a parole violation warrant.
An OSP drug-detection dog alerted to the presence of drugs in the car, Fox said. During a search, troopers found about six ounces of suspected crystal methamphetamine, scales and a loaded revolver hidden in the car.
Mailman was booked into the Crook County Jail and was held without bail. OSP was assisted by the Crook County Sheriff's Office.
In 2016, a jury convicted Mailman of assault, felony strangulation and other charges for trying to strangle his wife during an altercation in downtown La Grande the previous October, a news report indicated. The felony charge was because his wife was six month's pregnant with their child at the time, a prosecutor said.
