Deschutes County property tax statements are going out; voter-approved levies mean Bend bills will rise about 8%
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Deschutes County will mail more than 114,500 property tax statements this week, and some property owners may notice an increase. This year, voters approved several local levies that are now affecting the 2024-2025 tax bills. In addition, bond amounts can change annually, which also impact the amount.
“The amount you pay depends on both your property’s assessed value and the tax rate for services like fire districts, schools and cities,” said Deschutes County Assessor Scot Langton. “If you live in Bend, you’ll likely see about an 8% increase this year.”
Changes affecting the 2024-2025 taxes and other tax information will be provided in statement packets, but property owners can also find the information online.
Property owners should expect to receive their tax statements next week, either in the mail or by email, for individuals who signed up to receive e-statements. You can also view and compare annual property tax statements at dial.deschutes.org. If you haven’t received your tax statement by Thursday, Oct. 31, please contact the Deschutes County Tax Collector’s Office at (541) 388-6540.
Property tax statements come in two colors: yellow and green. Generally, a yellow statement indicates that a lender has requested your statement. Please verify that the lender listed on the statement is correct. It is the property owner’s responsibility to know if the lender will be paying the taxes. If in doubt, please contact your lender. A green statement indicates that a lender has not requested your statement, and the property owner is responsible for paying the bill.
Property owners have three options for paying their taxes:
- Pay in full by Nov. 15, 2024, and receive a 3 percent discount.
- Pay 2/3 by Nov. 15, 2024, and receive a 2 percent discount. The final payment is due by May 15, 2025.
- Pay in three installment payments with no discount. The first installment is due by Nov. 15, 2024, the second installment is due by Feb. 18, 2025, and the final installment is due by May 15, 2025.
Property taxes can be paid online, by phone at (866) 871-5856, in person at the Deschutes Services Building, 1300 NW Wall St. in Bend, at a drop box at the Deschutes Services Building or behind Redmond City Hall at 411 SW 9th St., through your bank’s online bill pay, or by mail. If you plan to mail your property tax payment, please allow sufficient time for the payment to arrive.
Payments must be received by the tax collection office or postmarked by Nov. 15 to receive a payment discount. The postmark is not applied until it reaches a distribution center, which is not at your local post office.
