Central Oregon fire chiefs remind debris burning still closed, urge residents to contact local fire departments

Central Oregon Fire Chiefs

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Central Oregon Fire Chiefs’ Association works with local, state and federal partners to determine when to collectively open debris burning in the fall.  The Oregon Department of Forestry has not officially ended the fire season, they said Thursday, and fire danger is still considered moderate.

With another historic fire season across Oregon this year, and active fires currently in Central Oregon, there are areas in the tri-county region still at risk for fire.  Conditions remain dry.  The amount of moisture some areas have received is not enough to abate continued fire risk throughout the region.

Residents are strongly encouraged to contact their local fire protection agencies for burning information and regulations.

All Central Oregon fire departments and rural fire districts will continue to monitor weather and fuel moisture conditions in their district and may make modifications on a day-to-day basis.  Please call your local outdoor burning information line for your current conditions.

If conditions allow, individual agencies may choose to open local burning on a particular day.

Because of localized variability, debris burning season is still closed until conditions collectively improve for all fire districts in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties.
