REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Firefighters quickly stopped an attic fire at an Eagle Crest-area home Saturday morning that was traced to the mechanical failure of a bathroom exhaust fan, prompting a reminder to residents about their proper care.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were called around 7:30 a.m. to the possible structure fire in the 1400 block of Harrier Court, Fire Marshal/Public Information Officer Tom Mooney said.

Arriving crews saw flames venting through the roof, Mooney said. They quickly stretched hose lines inside and learned the fire was in the attic space above the master bathroom.

“An aggressive attack was made to stop the fire in the attic space,” Mooney said in a news release. “The fire was brought under control, keeping the fire damage limited to a small area.”

Redmond Fire & Rescue was assisted by Bend Fire & Rescue and the Cloverdale Rural Fire District.

Mooney said the fire’s cause serves as “a good reminder that if your bathroom exhaust fans are making strange noises or are over 10 years old, it is recommended to replace the fans. Exhaust fans should also be cleaned of any build-up of dust on a regular basis.”
