Fire burns RV in Sisters; resident suffers burns trying to put out blaze
SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A travel trailer burned in a fire Wednesday near a Sisters hotel and the occupant was able to escape but suffered burns trying to extinguish the blaze, officials said.
Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire District crews responded to the RV fire reported by a U.S. Forest Service employee shortly before 11 a.m. on the 140 spur off Forest Service Road 2058, about a quarter-mile north of the Best Western Ponderosa Lodge, Fire Marshal Jeff Puller said.
A Forest Service engine crew joined Sisters-Camp Sherman crews who arrived to find the fire extinguished and contained to the trailer, Puller said.
Crews on scene also provided medical care to the occupant, who was taken by a Black Butte Ranch Fire District ambulance to St. Charles Bend.
The cause of the fire was determined to be improper disposal of burning material, Puller said.
Other responding agencies included the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.
“The Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District encourages all residents and visitors in Sisters Country to have working fire extinguishers and smoke detectors in their homes and recreational vehicles,” Puller said in a news release.
