Evacuations ordered as wildfires in Columbia Gorge close Interstate 84, SR 14 on Washington side

THE DALLES, Ore. (KTVZ) -- An 18-mile stretch of Interstate 84 was closed Wednesday afternoon and Level 3 GO NOW evacuations were ordered due to one of two wildfires burning on either side of the Columbia River Gorge.

ODOT reported shortly after 2 p.m. that I-84 was closed between Mosier and The Dalles (milepost 64-82) due to the Rowena Fire, at last report having burned about 50 acres between The Dalles and Mosier. ODOT said to expect extended delays or use an alternate route.

KGW reported that Level 3 GO NOW and Level 2 GET SET evacuations were put in place for parts of The Dalles due to wildfires burning Wednesday afternoon. Other fire activity closed State Route 14 east of Stevenson on the Washington side. A Level 1 GET READY notice was in place in the Port of The Dalles area.
