New development will bring condos, retail spaces to La Pine

The Reserve in The Pines is expected to begin construction next month

LA PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A new housing development will bring more than five acres of park space and community paths to La Pine.

Phase 1 of The Reserve in The Pines project includes 51 lots ranging from 5,000 to 9,000 square feet, starting from about $70,000.

The multi-use development is located across from the St. Charles Family Care Clinic in La Pine.

Scott Asla, a realtor and former member of the Bend Park and Rec Board, said the project has been two years in the planning stages. It is comprised of three phases and is expected to reach completion in three years.

NewsChannel 21 spoke with Victor Russell, the land owner and developer, on Monday to learn more about the project.

“I think if people give it a chance, they’ll be pleasantly surprised by what we’ve built,” Russell said. “Not only is it fire-safe, but the way we’ve done the roads is purposely to keep everything safe. It’s built for families.”

Russell said growth in the community should not be a cause for concern.

“There’s already plans for expansion of the sewer,” Russell said. “It will bid this fall and go on for the next couple of years, so La Pine is prepared for the expansion.”

He said people come to south Deschutes County to be closer to outdoor recreation sites, which is why they incorporated some of the outdoor elements into The Reserve by creating parks and pathways.

Along with residential condominiums, The Reserve will include spaces for retail, a coffee shop, a pub, and a bakery.

Construction on the first phase is expected to begin in June.
