Entire La Pine Park & Rec board resigns at tense, emotional meeting, issues termination notice to all staff

(Update: Adding video)

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – The entire La Pine Park & Recreation District Board has resigned and terminated all staff as of October 20th, they announced at an emergency meeting Wednesday.

The latest move come two weeks after the park district closed their offices to the public, citing “serious harassment” of staff both on and off-duty, and a week after the board first canceled all youth sports, then the next day said they would continue through an agreement with the Southern Oregon Sports Alliance.

Dozens attended the meeting in person or via Zoom as things got emotional and tense at times.

The resignations mean the Board of County Commissioners will be asked to fill the board vacancies until the end of their elected terms. There are five board member positions; one had departed earlier.

Deschutes County Clerk Steve Dennison said that under state statute, "If the majority of the board resigns, that would leave it to the BOCC to make the appointments to fill the vacancies for the remainder of the respective terms."
