Fire prevention week warnings emphasize keeping lithium-ion devices in sight

OREGON (KTVZ) -- Right now, it's Fire Prevention Week, and local fire agencies are reminding people how to stay safe.

Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue says, if you're flying, keep your lithium-ion battery devices in sight. That includes phones, laptops and power banks.

Travelers are reminded to keep these devices with them in the aircraft cabin, rather than in checked luggage when prohibited or restricted. And if a device starts overheating, smoking, swelling or acting unusually, alert a flight attendant right away.

A little battery awareness can go a long way — even at 30,000 feet.
