Redmond PD release dramatic bodycam video of officers kicking in door, rescuing 5 people from burning home

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Redmond Police released dramatic bodycam video Thursday of officers rushing to, then kicking in the door of a burning home to awaken and rescue five people sleeping inside, a blaze that investigators tied to improper disposal of legal fireworks.

Police and firefighters responded around 1:20 a.m. last Friday to the reported structure fire in the 2100 block of Northwest Redwood Avenue, Lieutenant Eric Beckwith said. They arrived to find a side of the home engulfed in flames

Officers tried to awaken the residents, but with no answer, an officer can be seen repeatedly kicking the door until it opens and they rush inside.

Police Chief Devin Lewis publicly recognized Officers Jeremy Rutledge, Riley Powell and Sergeant Jered Kirk for their courageous actions at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
