BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A nearly $400,000 upgrade is coming to Bend Fire & Rescue — targeting one of the most heavily used spaces inside the station.

City leaders have approved a contract to remodel kitchens at three fire stations, with work rolling out in phases over the next several years.

But why now — and what’s behind the need for the upgrades?

KTVZ’s Tracee Tuesday takes you inside one of the stations set for a makeover and gives a glimpse at what firefighters can expect once the work is complete.

She also explains who’s footing the bill.

Watch the full report today on FOX and NBC at 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 p.m.
