LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: Concerns over Heat, Smoke, and Fire Risk
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - A Red Flag Warning goes into effect at noon Sunday due to hot, dry and unstable conditions.
Winds should remain light, but poor air movement means smoke and haze could linger through the day. There is a chance for isolated storms (mainly south Deschutes). While chances are low, any thunderstorms that form nearby could send sudden gusty winds into the region.Â
The Air Quality Alert extends until Monday night. During this time, it’s best to stay indoors due to the unhealthy air or bring a mask with you when you’re out and about.Â
Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 90s. This hot pattern is due to a dominant high pressure system remains in place across the western US.
This hot pattern continues into early next week, which is why a Heat Advisory remains in effect.
Monsoonal moisture is pushing farther north, bringing a chance for isolated thunderstorms in the Cascades and Central Oregon mountains starting Sunday.
Storm chances linger through the week, mainly during the afternoon and evening. We should see some relief from the heat in the mid-to-late week as the ridge breaks down.
Heat, smoke, and storms are all in the forecast, so make sure you’re staying up to date on the KTVZ weather app. There's a lot going on and we want you to stay safe!
