Dry and sunny pattern to close out the year

KTVZ-TV

Bend, Ore (KTVZ)— Quiet week ahead with little in the way of snow or rain and temperatures in the 40s.  A ridge of high pressure will be the dominant weather feature this week keeping the skies mostly clear until at least Wednesday.

Monday will be mostly sunny with a light winds and highs in the low to middle 40s. Normal high temperatures for Central Oregon in late December should top out at 41. The overnight lows will be in the middle 20s which is about a degree or two over the normal 23 for this time of year.

Tuesday stays dry as the ridge of high pressure, which nosed into the region Sunday, is still in command. This will be the beginning of the breakdown of the ridge as an area of low pressure spins off the California coast.  Highs in the middle 40s and light winds will define the day.

Wednesday will another mild day for the end of the year as the mercury reaches the upper 40s to low 50s.  As the day moves along some clouds arrive as an area of low pressure moves north toward Oregon.

New Year’s Eve will be partly cloudy and chilly with temps in the middle 30s. Bundle up if you are going out to celebrate the New Year, but it will not be bitterly cold.

New Year’s Day will be the first chance for some light rain to arrive since last week. The chance for light rain or drizzle will be low, but not zero, so keep the rain gear in the car. Since highs are expected to reach 50 on Thursday, no snow or wintry mix is likely, just rain.

Friday and Saturday will be mild as well with highs close to 50 each day. Each day will also have a slight chance for some light rain as well. There may be some light mountain snow, but not much more than an inch or so.

Please, Stay safe.
