Atmospheric River Brings Gusty Winds and Pass Travel Hazards to Central Oregon

Central Oregon is still feeling the tail end of that atmospheric river today. After yesterday's 25 mph gusts, expect more of the same breezy conditions through the afternoon with winds hitting up to 30 mph. We’re looking at highs in the mid-to-upper 50s under mostly cloudy skies, with about a 50/50 shot of rain off and on.

The real shift happens tonight. Rain chances jump to 70% after dark, and lows will dip into the high 30s. If you’re planning a trip over the Cascades, keep an eye out—the Winter Weather Advisory is still in effect through tomorrow morning. NOAA is calling for about 4 inches of heavy, wet snow above 4,000 feet, so the passes might get a bit slick.

Heading into the weekend, Saturday will remain cool and damp, but drier conditions are expected to return by Sunday. Residents should prepare for a significant warming trend beginning early next week, with temperatures potentially reaching the 70s by midweek.

Please use caution on the mountain passes and stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve.
